A new replica Dutch barge built by one of Britain's most renowned inland waterway boatbuilders.

One of very few Dutch barges to be classified to RCD [Recreational Craft Directive] Category B.

Boat Details
Built by Stoke-on-Trent based Piper Boats, Elessina is powered by an M92 coupled to a PRM500 gearbox. She is a rear-cabined steel barge that the owners plan to sail in the UK and across the Channel. Her classification to RCD Category B enables her to be sailed in Gale Force 8 winds with wave heights of up to four metres.

Customer View
"Elessina is built to a specification and standard that allows us to permanently live-aboard in comfort. She is not fitted with sails, relying on the single engine as the sole source of power. This focused our attention on selecting the right make and model, particularly as we are keen to combine Channel-crossing reliability with minimal maintenance and fuel economy."

"On this type of boat, top speed is not really a major consideration; engine responsiveness is every bit as important for a vessel of this weight and size when manoeuvring in congested stretches of water or at locks. Even in the wheelhouse, with the doors shut, the engine is quiet, and it starts first time, every time, even on freezing cold mornings in the middle of winter."
